It is critical to choose the right wood for the job, especially in an agricultural environment. Simply your life by choosing Osmose Wood Products and avoid problems.

Osmose Wood Products are preferred over other building materials for a number of reasons:

  • Osmose wood puts a stop to biological wood destruction and provides years of trouble-free service.
  • The weaknesses inherent in untreated and poorly treated wood have been all but eliminated.
  • In tests conducted by the USDA on stakes treated with Osmose preservative have shown a resistance to termite and decay damage for over 40 years.
  • The USDA, an independent and impartial testing agency predicts a service life for Osmose preservative treated materials of 5 to 10 times longer than untreated lumber.
  • Osmose Wood Products are environmentally safe for all types of livestock. Osmose licensed treaters uses 100% oxide-pure waterborne preservative and contains no harmful vapors or surface residues. This is an important factor to consider, since animal weight gain and productivity are directly related to animal comfort and health.
  • Osmose posts are better able to absorb the shock and stresses of livestock and still keep their shape, which makes farm fencing another popular use.

Osmose Wood Products are ideal for use in direct-contact situations with farm crops. Smart farmers make Osmose the product of choice for use in confined livestock enclosures, barns, shelters, laying parlors and farm buildings of all types.

Pentachlorophenol is an excellent wood preservative which has been in commercial use for over 60 years and is approved by the American Wood Preservers Association, and the Canadian Institute of Treated Wood. Penta is a crystalline solid which is made into a liquid preservative solution by dissolving it in an organic solvent. This solution usually contains 4-5% penta by weight.

The process for preserving the wood begins with conditioning the raw material. This is accomplished by vacuuming the moisture content out of the wood while it is in the pressure cylinder.

Next, the initial air pressure is established in the cylinder, which causes the cells of the wood to expand, then the cylinder is filled with the Penta solution.

The next step is to increase the air pressure to 120-150 psi (depending on the moisture content) and in effect, the preservative is forced into the wood.

The pressure is applied for 3 hours, and at the end of the process, the excess solution is forced from the cells.

When the pressure is relieved, a 2nd vacuum is applied to remove any remaining soltion and the cells return to normal size.
